In honor of Black History Month, we would like to recognize these two powerful women who have done so much to increase justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in science and birding: Makeda Cheatom of the WorldBeat Center and Marilú López-Fretts from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Their commitment to intentionally creating more equitable and just spaces is changing the way science is done.

During these unprecedented stressful times, our priority is to stay safe and healthy. Although numerous studies tell us about the positive effects that contact with nature has on our health, this might not be an option for everyone. But, with some creativity, and technology, we may be able to bring a bit of nature to our homes.
.......................................................................................................................................

With this inspiring work of art we begin this campaign against Discrimination, an effort that is borne from members of the Community, for the Community. This important work is part of https://buff.ly/3jWXpFu, a community science project that seeks to change how science is done so that it serves all communities inclusively and equitably and part of Celebrate Urban Birds. We want to create a world where everyone feels free to participate in science and bird watching. We invite you to reflect on this relevant issue and take action "For a world without discrimination."

Discipline, acceptance and adaptation, is with humanity the way to relate to our environment. We learn from childhood the realities of life, the fragile ecosystems. It is from our interior to where our feet can walk and where our being can live in fullness and harmony, it must be the same for everyone. In this time, we have advanced a lot and evolved very little, we continue teaching, we continue repeating values, but also repressive and discriminatory judgments that poison humanity from within. There is no normality, nor perfection, it only works with will and harmony. The first step to achieve change is to reflect within. We adapt to what feels comfortable, but instead we must adapt to what feels uncomfortable. It takes personal discipline and life commitment. We live today, our tragedy is happening today. We must initiate radical change in the face of such harmful inhuman behaviors.
Author: Víctor Puga. Cancún, agosto 2020.

We thank the Maestro Víctor Puga who together with Ceci and Juan de Green Jay collaborated in this effort. Cancún, agosto 2020.

I found. This little guy in my garden yesterday. Does anyone know the name of this bird?
Parrots in London - April 2019
There was a pair of robins here who nested in our cedar bush, the babies were growing great and last night I think a cat got them, I see the male this morning still searching for his mate. Do I take the nest down or leave it. I am feeling so sorry for this tragedy. I checked to see this morning and the nest is empty with a little carcus on the ground, what is left of the dear little thing. My God.
Young yellow crowned night heron has crab for lunch in the Bronx this evening.
Thought you would enjoy this. There is a little birdie making a nest in a garbage bin on my back patio.
I would love a kit, but it's not working for me
