KAO Group Hike & General Chapter Meeting at Sawmill Slough🌿For our March meeting, KAO enjoyed an evening exploring wildlife, native plants, and reconnecting as a chapter. Join us during Earth Week, on April 23rd from 4:30pm-6:00pm in the Institute of Environmental Research and Education where we will host our senior send off, executive board elections, and an earth day themed activity to close out this semester. 🌎

Welcome back from Spring Break KAO! Here is a friendly reminder for our KAO General Chapter Meeting this Friday (3/27) from 4:30 - 5:45pm. We will be meeting at Eco Adventure for a short group hike, so be sure to wear outdoorsy clothes (feel free to bring your friends for this hike!) and please bring a reusable water bottle.

IERE will provide binoculars for this KAO event so we can get a closer look at the species of the Sawmill Slough.

KAO is proud to welcome our 2026 inductees at our Spring 2026 induction ceremony. This group is just a snapshot of over 25 new members we've had join the chapter this year!

We are honored to co-host this event with the UNF Institute of Environmental Research and Education (IERE) and our Faculty Advisor, Dr. Erin Largo-Wight, Professor of Public Health and Director of the Institute.

Congratulations and thank you to every inductee and their family & friends for joining us for this great event. We are honored to have these remarkable inductees join the Environmental Honors Society at UNF, Kappa Alpha Omicron - Chi Chapter, and look forward to supporting and recognizing their achievements through KAO.

Want to learn how to camp? Join our S.W.A.N. Committee (Students Wandering About Nature) this Thursday, February 19 from 5:15pm-6:15pm for a low key workshop going over how to build a tent, leave no trace principles, and camp games in preparation for future S.W.A.N. Led Trips. All skill levels are welcome!

Happy New Year KAO! We are excited to start off the Spring Semester with you all next week on January 15, from 4:30pm-6:00pm in the IERE Office (Building 16, Suite 3111).

This meeting will be our first general chapter meeting of the year and is a great opportunity for new students to learn more. We will be providing an overview of the chapter, introduction to new initiatives (new committees, events, and goals), and ways to get involved in 2026. Including preparing for our February Induction Ceremony for new members!

What a year it's been for KAO! From leadership meetings to environmental impact initiatives, every event was an opportunity to connect, grow, and make a difference. Through unforgettable experiences and lasting friendships, KAO made the 2024-2025 school year truly memorable. Thank you to everyone who contributed, participated, and brought enthusiasm and dedication to every event.

We're still smiling and reminiscing about the incredible 2024-2025 year with the UNF Environmental Honor Society, Kappa Alpha Omicron.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who made this year so special. As we share more of our year-in-review this summer, we wanted to take this to congratulate our Spring 2025 KAO Graduates! 🎓

This is one of our largest graduating classes yet, and we couldn't be prouder of your achievements. Our graduates come from diverse majors including biology, public health, interdisciplinary environmental studies, psychology, anthropology, biomedical sciences, and more! We are already so proud to call you our alumni.

Come join us for the NPCA Civic Engagement Workshop! This educational session will explore advocacy, policy engagement, and community involvement in protecting national parks. Participants will learn about current environmental challenges facing parks, effective strategies for advocacy, and ways to take action in their own communities. The workshop aims to empower attendees with the knowledge and tools to support conservation efforts and ensure the long-term protection of natural and cultural resources.

The workshop will be led by Vanessa Trujillo, Senior Conservation Program Manager for the Sun Coast at NPCA, and Isabella Mills, our NPCA Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) student who helped develop the workshop.
