Our current program, Building BRIDGEs, is expanding. With these new changes, we want to give the growing program a new name.
The program is a campus-based transition program that partners with local school districts offering functional academic and life skills curricula and the Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 Apartment Programs to support middle level and secondary students with disabilities (ages 12–22) as they prepare for life after high school. Students are grouped with peers of similar ages to promote meaningful social and learning experiences. Pitt-Johnstown education majors develop and facilitate lessons and activities during weekly sessions throughout the academic year.
Our Mission: Build the skills, experiences, and relationships students need to successfully transition to adulthood by connecting classroom learning to authentic, real-world opportunities.
