The ladies of Iota Sigma Omega chapter are proud to continue our Leadership Spotlight series with our next feature being our chapter’s Social Justice Chair, Mrs. Terri Marlene Benton-Ollie. Mrs. Benton-Ollie has a masters of public affairs from Western Michigan University (WMU) and a master of arts in college personnel administration from Central Missouri State University as well as a bachelor of science in education with a teacher’s certification in marketing and distributive education. She is a
MHSAA Referee/Official in baseball, basketball, volleyball and competitive cheer. She is an election specialist with Richland Township. She is also a Michigan Citizen Action Voter Registration specialist. Above all, she is CEO of Action Matters (a 501C3) that unites people, places, and progress via academics, activism, arts, athletics, atmosphere. She is a proud affiliate of Hope For Creation, Kalamazoo Climate Crisis Coalition, ISAAC, Mom Against Gun Violence and the National Urban League. She is a member of YMCA/YWCA, NAACP, United Way Loan Executive Program and Church Women United where she recently served as the Michigan state president and local treasurer. She is the founder of the WEC (Women’s Education Coalition) KCF, KVBA (Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association) and the WMU dance team. Mrs. Benton Ollie is the 6th daughter born to elected Alderman Clyde & Juanita Bass Benton, in Higginsville Missouri; she has 2 younger brothers. All 8 of her siblings and both children are active with local churches and elections because for them: legacy matters! Terri is an arts and crafts master while formally trained in singing and dancing. Her other lifelong efforts include climate sustainability while encouraging growing gardens, groves, and orchards. Together, with her husband, D. O’Neal Ollie, they have published 4 books with the input of their son and daughter, Bass and Symphony Ollie. The upcoming “Legacy Matters” edition is a continuing commitment to the theory “only what you do for CHRIST will last.” 💕💚
