HEY KEUKA STUDENTS! We need your help to stop a 500+ dog puppy mill just across the lake from YOU!!! PLEASE SHOW UP TUESDAY 11/14 TO HELP STOP Puppy Mills in the Finger Lakes. Specifically this one in Barrington/Penn Yan/Dundee. The Zoning Board of Appeals meeting (to approve the expansion of the apparently existing facility) is Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7pm, 4424 Old Bath Road Penn Yan, NY 14527. Bring signs. Our attorney Susan Chana Lask has contacted the news stations who we expect to see there. We want a moratorium. http://www.townofbarrington.org/announcements.php#263 INFO: The Puppy Mill owners are Father (John)/son(Wayne). Their Sensenig dog breeding facility (AKA Puppy Mill) in Pennsylvania, which held 500+ dogs had an “Enforcement related closure” in July of 2017 after a failed inspection. In August the Sensenig’s showed up in NY. If their facility here is closed, we can expect a to cost our towns in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, in enforcement, court, crime scene/vet tech/documentation, and we all know our not-for-profit animal societies are not able to process and handle 500+ abused dogs. The Sensenig's have a history of animal abuse (see link at bottom of post for article/video link of the sensenig’s kicking a dying horse.) You can read the full PA reports here; http://www.appellate-brief.com/images/stories/PDF/BarringtonPuppyMill2017 /John_Sensenig_inspections__shut_down_in_PA.pdf a brief overview of their behavior in PA based on the inspection reports follows. WHY WAS HE SHUT DOWN IN PA? During Inspections Dog wardens observed: Excreta within the kennel that had not been removed on a daily basis/build up of feces/dirt/debris. “owner presented a bottle of sanitizing agent that was frozen.” “Numerous piles of feces in the outdoor exercise yards of primary enclosures. Kennel owner admitted he does not clean up feces in exercise yards of primary enclosures. “ “Wardens viewed an entire bag of sodden dog food lying on the ground – puppies – were standing on and eating the food, which kennel owner said was two years old and which he placed there to soak up excess moisture in a muddy area.” Puppies that did not have access to adequate shelter. Shelters that did not have sufficient bedding or other means of protection from the weather provided for dogs & insufficient space. Puppies shivering in the kennel, which was not maintained at a level to protect the health and comfort of the type of puppies housed. Puppies drinking water contaminated with mud and feces/frozen water in enclosures housing puppies. Wardens found several miscellaneous metal objects on the ground in the primary enclosures where dogs were being kept. Records missing information; no date the dog left, name of person who acquired them and/or where they went. (Puppy mills often mulch animal remains into fields. - Sensenig has a 90 day return policy for dogs. Where do they go?) Cruelty referrals to Lancaster county detective and PSCPA for puppies suffering from health conditions “Labored breathing – productive cough – gagging – gurgling sound in chest –thin with “prominent vertebral spinal processes palpable and visible.” ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES IN LANCASTER COUNTY Sensenig’s comments on the video of his son kicking a horse’s abdomen and punching it in the head as it lay dying. “We disagree with the [animal cruelty] charges (but) we will accept the charges if that will make anyone feel better,” John Sensenig told LNP. “A passerby is making a lot out of a little and has absolutely no knowledge of horses.”: http://lancasteronline.com/opinion/editorials/editorial-a-disturbing-animal-cruelty-trend-in-lancaster-county/article_4670b55e-60c9-11e6-a52f-db51441e6c36.html
