Training at Palm Beach State College’s Fire Academy helped a Chilean firefighter rescue an elderly woman trapped inside a burning home—an example of the College’s impact reaching far beyond South Florida.

“The international training we do here is very important,” said Mark Siciliano, interim fire academy director at PBSC. “The National Fire Academy in Chile is not easy to go to, even that’s limited. The leaders of that academy have also come here to train.”

Palm Beach State College’s Medical Assisting Program is celebrating 25 years of accreditation this year from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), a milestone that reflects the program’s longstanding commitment to high-quality education.

Associate Professor and Department Chair Penny Knight, who began teaching medical assisting as an adjunct instructor at PBSC in 2016, has witnessed significant change within the program.

“I am so proud of how much the program has grown and evolved over the years while continuing to remain focused on student success,” Knight said. “The most rewarding part has been seeing students gain confidence in the skills they are developing as they prepare for meaningful careers in healthcare.”

Are you 16 or older or know someone interested in technology, engineering or other STEM fields?

The STEM Academy: Visualize + Innovate + Prototype will be at Palm Beach State College's Boca Raton campus!

This four-Saturday, hands-on experience puts the "T" in STEM front and center while connecting technology with engineering, creativity and real-world problem-solving.

Students will explore: Python programming and AI, robotics, quantum cybersecurity, circuit creation and soldering, 3D printing, engineering and prototype design.

Participants will also enjoy an escape room field trip and opportunities to connect with industry guest speakers in computer science in engineering.
