Inspired by a building on the Isle of Skye, this creative home was built on an old potato farm in the far reaches of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Its roofline references the rolling mountains of Vermont while combining modern details with a rugged pine timber frame. In addition, it boasts a Stuv fireplace for those who love the visual and thermal warmth of a wood fire on a cold night. For the building nerds it also has a Zehnder ERV with a humidifier to ensure optimal interior RH and a respectable blower door test at .52ACH50. Landscape Architecture by the charming Andy Bohne features some giant Goshen stone flagging and native plantings. Check out more photos on our website.

Concrete forms are up and the concrete has been poured at our Bethlehem project. Forms are stripped and the walls have been waterproofed. Here are some fun shots pre-pour of the cacophony and the order that go in to creating the foundation that holds up our homes.

Join us in celebrating Madison’s 2nd year anniversary at the Garland Mill with a snapshot of what a typical day looks like as an architectural designer. From designing with Molly and Ben on Archicad, to looking at plans with Matt, to site visits with the lead carpenters, Madison never has a dull moment at GM.

JOBSITE UPDATES - RANDOLPH RENOVATION AND ADDITION
Super warm triple paned windows are installed at our Randolph project. The windows reduce condensation, keep temperature inside warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. Thermal comfort and durability along with incredible views of the Presidentials. All in a day's work.

JOBSITE UPDATES - BETHLEHEM JEWEL
BOX
We’ve started a jewel box of a glass conservatory
addition to a cool modern home in Bethlehem with
views of the White Mountains. Matt and Luke worked
with Paul to get the site prepped for concrete. Bob and
crew poured a frost -protected shallow foundation.
And then Matt and Andre got things kicked off with the
rough framing. Windows and a large glass door arrive
soon. In addition, we took advantage of being on site
to put enough solar on the garage roof to cover energy
usage on a net annual basis. Stay tuned for windows
and doors.

SCREENED PORCHES
Hot week! Dog days of summer. Bugs are out. Nothing better than a shaded, screened outdoor room to enjoy the sun and a cool drink. Most of our homes include this wonderful little addition. Great for meals and naps and lollygagging about.

JOBSITE UPDATES - SSIC
Gutters are in at Super Secret Ice Cream! Water Management is a big deal for buildings. Bulk water is our primary concern in this department. Collecting it and piping it away from the building keeps materials warm and dry, reduces rot, mildew and freeze thaw cycles that all contribute to degradation of the building. Careful planning for how to manage this water is little seen and remarked upon but a very important part of any design.

The new deck and accessible ramp at SSIC included the first phase of this bulk water management plan. The flowers and the beautiful deck immediately catch the eye, but the bulk water management from the gutter and the underground piping keeps customers and the building dry. Hard to see but equally important. As we begin design explorations for the entrance and parking areas, we will again be thinking again about bulk water and how to manage it in a way that doesn’t damage the parking surfaces or the building. It won’t be readily noticeable, but it is a crucial part of good design.
