๐ Our Rebel Raiser is Now Live! ๐
We are excited to announce that our fundraising campaign for the Guatemala and Nicaragua projects is officially underway! Your generous donations will help us achieve our goal of $7,000 and make a real impact in these developing communities.
Project Overview:
๐ฌ๐น El Cebollin, Guatemala:
- El Cebollin is a rural agricultural community in Guatemala. The children of the community did not have a proper schoolhouse and had to walk 2 kilometers to the nearest school; concerned for their safety, the community built a temporary schoolhouse, although it did not meet the childrenโs needs.
- The El Cebollin community partnered with EWB-UNLV to make a larger, more permanent schoolhouse. EWB-UNLV student members worked with professional mentors to create designs for the schoolhouse, and decided on a two school-rooms, one office design. The construction of the schoolhouse is now fully completed, and provides a more stable place for the children to learn. The schoolhouse is also used as a gathering area for activities and festivals.
๐ณ๐ฎ San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua:
- In 2010 and 2011, San Francisco Libre was hit by a devastating flood, causing mass destruction and the displacement of over 300 families. The families were relocated to higher ground, but did not have access to essential necessities, one of them being sanitation.
- The San Francisco Libre community partnered with EWB-UNLV to build 41 two-pit, reusable composting latrines that stopped open defecation while providing compost for growing crops. The latrines were built during four implementation trips that spanned four years.
๐ Current Progress:
๐ฌ๐น El Cebollian, Guatemala: We are currently on the monitoring and evaluation phase of our schoolhouse project. Examining the state of the schoolhouse and communicating with the El Cebollin community will enhance the educational environment for children in this agricultural community.
๐ณ๐ฎ San Francisco Libre, Nicaragua: The project is now in the monitoring and evaluation phase, and the chapter has conducted the monitoring and evaluation trip in April 2024 to examine the latrines. This examination will allow EWB-UNLV to determine the state of the latrines.
๐ช How You Can Help: Please consider making a donation to support these meaningful projects. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us reach our goal and make a real difference.
