My name is Julia Frattolin, and I am a teacher in Lake County as well as Co-President of the Lake County Educators Association. I have had the privilege of teaching 2nd grade for 3 years at LCES. As I write this I think of the 28 7 year olds that sit in my classroom everyday. I think of the amazing work they do, the smiles they give me when they come in each morning, and how amazing it is to watch them grow throughout the year. These 2nd graders are part of our community, part of our future, and deserve the best education we can give them. As an educator my main priority is my students and their success. I want to be able to provide them with all the opportunities they need to flourish. Voting yes to 4A helps ensure this.
It's my job as a teacher to teach and care for these kids. It's our job as a community to do everything we can to help our future generation. One way the community can do this is voting yes to 4A! 4A brings in money for our school district to help in attracting and retaining exceptional teachers and staff, as well as addressing critical deferred maintenance. These things are essential for our district. Students deserve teachers who stay, who care about them, and who show up ready to help
them learn! The deferred maintenance also ensures students are in the best place they can be to learn.
As a member of this community I want to continue to see Leadville grow and improve. To me this starts with the school district. Unfortunately our county is significantly behind neighboring counties in funding for students. LCSD only receives $718 each year per-student. Other similar districts double this for their students through ballot measures like 4A. That means our students are not getting the resources they need.
I understand how money is tight for many folks however this modest investment of approximately $2 per month per $100,000 of actual home value will make huge impacts on our school district. The money from the 4A is going to something worthwhile for the students, the teachers, and the maintenance needed to help improve our school district.
The financial situation we are currently in is based on many funding factors that are beyond our control. However, passing 4A is in our control. It is up to us to do better and give these students better. Sitting back and saying it is what it is is not an option at this point. The money from 4A goes back to OUR kids, OUR teachers, OUR staff and OUR community.
As you go to vote this year, think of the students, their future, and our community when deciding and vote yes to 4A!
