Our full-mission simulators give mariners an immersive environment to practice navigation, bridge teamwork, communication and decision-making through realistic scenarios — all within a controlled training environment.

It’s one thing to discuss a challenging situation in the classroom.

It’s another to be standing on the bridge when it unfolds in front of you.

That’s where simulation training comes in.

Only two weeks remain to apply for the MITAGS Workboat Mate Apprenticeship Program! ⚓

Based at MITAGS-West in Seattle, this two-year program combines classroom instruction, simulator training, and paid onboard experience while preparing apprentices to earn a 500-Ton or 1,600-Ton Ocean Mate license.

No previous maritime experience is required. This opportunity may be a great fit for career changers, recent graduates, veterans, and anyone ready to build a long-term career aboard commercial workboat.

Applications close September 15, 2026. The program begins March 8, 2027.

⚓ This is where the magic happens.

Behind every MITAGS simulator exercise is a control room where our instructors manage the scenario unfolding on the bridge.

From changing environmental conditions and vessel traffic to introducing equipment issues and other challenges, instructors can create realistic situations that require trainees to think, communicate and make decisions under pressure.

It’s one of the things that makes simulation such a valuable training tool: challenging situations can be practiced, evaluated and discussed in a controlled environment.
