Magaly Uriostegui transferred from Santa Ana College to California State University, Fullerton in 2019, but left after one semester as she balanced academics, family responsibilities and financial hardship.

While raising two young daughters and working full time, her goal of earning a degree never faded. Through the CSU’s Second Start Pilot Program, Uriostegui got the chance to return and she took it.

To support potential and make sure they experience a smooth transition, the CSU offers two main transfer pathways: the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) and the Transfer Success Pathway (TSP): https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/news/Pages/csu-transfer-pathways-for-students.aspx

CSU transfer pathways are structured routes that help students transfer from community college to a CSU campus. They help students transfer on time, shorten their path to a four-year degree and answer questions like:

➡️ Which CSU campuses should I aim for?
➡️ Will my community college classes align with my chosen major?
➡️ Am I on track to transfer on time?

The third biennial Symposium was an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Juneteenth, celebrate Black excellence and elevate the leadership, learning and legacy shaping our communities.

This year’s symposium looked a little different. In addition to the systemwide virtual program, CSU campuses received support to host their own watch parties and Juneteenth events, helping bring the celebration to more students, faculty and staff across California.

For the first time in 30 years, the CSU Board of Trustees has approved three new bachelor’s degree pathways: the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) and Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS).

These new degree options will help universities create flexible, career-focused programs for adult, returning and working learners. Unlike traditional B.A. and B.S. degrees, which often require extensive prerequisite coursework, these new pathways can offer more streamlined routes to degree completion.

That’s why it’s critical to , so more Californians can access flexible, affordable degree pathways, earn a degree and build the skilled workforce our state depends on.

New Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Professional Studies and Bachelor of Applied Studies open new pathways for students seeking flexible, high-quality and career-relevant degrees.
