Our teammate Ayako harvested this beautiful purple basil from our garden at our farm and used some of it to make a refreshing homemade shochu cocktail. The deep purple color of the basil turned into a gorgeous pinkish-red shade 💜🩷❤️

She also dried some of the purple basil and crumbled it into homemade furikake (rice seasoning), then mixed it into rice to make onigiri (Japanese rice balls) 🍙

From fresh basil, to a colorful cocktail, to homemade rice balls. Nothing wasted… just another fun way to enjoy homegrown purple basils👩🏻‍🌾🌿

🌱 From seedling to harvest: Shungiku!

We offered Shungiku seedlings for a limited time this season, and we loved seeing what one of our customers grew with them. Look at that harvest! 🙌

Also known as chrysanthemum greens, Shungiku is a flavorful leafy green popular in Japanese and other East Asian cuisines.

And we especially love what she made with her harvest: Shungiku wrapped with prosciutto and topped with purple basil flowers. All fresh from the garden. 🌿🌸

We’re done growing Shungiku seedlings for this season, but this is exactly why we love offering limited-run varieties alongside our everyday favorites.

There are so many ways to grow your own food. Raised beds, containers, hydroponics, backyard gardens... there’s no single “right” way. 🌱

For me, one of those ways has been the Garden Tower 2™.

I bought my first Garden Tower back in 2016 while living in a small apartment with a north-facing balcony that received almost no direct sunlight. Even then, I was able to grow fresh lettuce, herbs, and leafy greens right outside my door. It completely changed what I thought was possible in a small space.

Later that year, my wife and I got married. Her wedding bouquet was made from succulents, and instead of throwing them away, we planted them in the Garden Tower.

Ten years later, those same succulents are still growing. ❤️

After growing with a Garden Tower for the last decade, it felt natural to make it one of the gardening options we offer at Cerca Cultivation. It can grow up to 50 plants in just 4 square feet, making it a great option for anyone who wants to grow more in a small space.

"I have been an avid gardener in Maryland for decades. One of my favorite summer crops is sweet corn on the cob! I usually have zero problem finding corn seedlings in my local area. Welcome to May 2026 and corn seedlings were nowhere to be found. Nowhere to be found! Having gotten live seedlings online before, I knew that was going to be my best bet for sweet corn in 2026. I found Cerca Cultivation!

Though the website is very neat, clean, and user friendly, ordering live seedlings through the mail can be like rolling the dice. I wanted a little more information, so I called to Cerca and spoke to David. David let me know how they grow the products, how old the seedlings are at the time of shipping, and most importantly, how Cerca ships. David allayed my fears about how Cerca, in Redondo California, was going to ship 26 live sweet corn seedlings to Coastal Maryland in perfect condition. WOW!! Cerca Delivered!!

Once I unboxed and followed the enclosed directions, I noticed I was missing a plant. Besides being very apologetic for the snafu, he promised me I would be credited the cost of my missing seedling the following day. I checked the following day and there was my credit! How's that for integrity.

I have gotten all my seedling plugs into the ground and let mother nature begin her work. I'm getting 2 ears per plant of sweet, delicious, amazing corn on the cob which is the size of a dollar bill or larger. Simply Remarkable!

I will end like this. Buy your seedlings from Cerca Cultivation! They will deliver high quality, very fresh, very healthy seedlings to your door.
