Nu Alpha Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma at USC

We are the Nu Alpha Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma at the University of Southern California.

In the fall of 1996, a group of 20 women from the University of Southern California gathered at the Latino Floor lounge in Flour Tower to establish a strong Latina organization that could provide a social, cultural, and academic network of support. In the spring of 1997, we became an established organization at USC known as Las Mujeres. On October 13, 1997, we were officially recognized by Sigma L

ambda Gamma National Sorority as a Colony. On September 18, 1998, we were notified that Chapter status had been granted. Thus, the first Latina Sorority at USC, the Nu Alpha Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma, was established. Though we are historically Latina based, we pride ourselves on welcoming and supporting womxn of all cultures and backgrounds, as we strive to fully embody our principle of cultural awareness.

From the first informational, I could sense the genuine energy amongst the sisters, who want nothing but the best for one another. I truly have found my home away from home. I am thrilled and honored to be part of such a special sisterhood with the most empowering and supportive women.

Why SLG?
As I first Gen student and woman of color I felt very out of place my first semester and it was hard to cope. When going to SLG recruitment events I felt very supported and found a support system who would encourage and push me to do my best. Thanks to my sisters I was able to find a sisterhood and have a family whom I love very much!💖💜

Why SLG: Growing up in the suburbs of Sacramento, I’ve always wished for a closer connection with my community. Not only has SLG created the opportunity to join a sisterhood that celebrates Latinidad and multiculturalism, but the chapter within itself is a space where I feel appreciated and supported in all parts of my life.

We would like to congratulate our sister 💗 Last week, Jasmin was awarded the Ron McDuffie Award, which recognizes a graduating scholar and/or fellow who, in the words of the founding charter, “has demonstrated conspicuous scholarship, leadership, or service to the University or to the community surrounding USC.” The Award is named for one of the founders of the Fund.
