Our students learn within a cohort — a model based around connection from day one. As they lean on one another through exams, labs, and career preparation, the power of learning in a community shines through. 🤍

A contrast bath in action, one of the hands-on techniques our OTD students are mastering to help future patients manage edema and get back to the activities they love.

Students role-play therapist and patient, giving them perspective from all angles and letting them have some fun along the way!

Meet Mercy and Kierstin.

In this lab, Mercy is practicing ultrasound therapy on Kierstin, who's playing the role of a patient managing wrist and finger extensor pain.

Every day as an OT is a chance to help someone move a little easier, feel a little less pain, and get back to what matters to them.

McKaylie is acting as an OT for the day, applying electrode pads from a TENS device to help her “patient” manage pain. This is one of the hands-on tools our OTD students practice with during labs.

Swapping roles between therapist and patient means students feel what their future patients will feel and lets them practice using devices and techniques they will use as OTs.

Honing skills during labs prepares our students to graduate ready for clinical practice. 🙌

Occupational therapy doesn’t look the same for every patient. For some, it may look like playing a favorite card game with special accommodations, combining functional skill training with a fun activity.

Students in our labs simulate scenarios like this to help prepare them for working with patients in clinical practice.

During labs, students sometimes work with volunteers with neurological diagnoses, evaluating performance and participation to shape targeted interventions. Here, that meant helping a patient build core strength through purposeful activity.
