Marquette Marathon is always a fun day if you like photographing a bunch of people living their best life on a great course in perfect weather.
I followed the full and half marathons along the course from starts to finish. Wendy Hill Manson camped out at the finish all day to capture all of that glory.
Photos are up now at MQTphoto.com
Thanks to Lakeshore Bike Marquette once again for the Specialized Bicycle Components to help me rocket around the course to get the shots.

Ore to Shore Mtn Bike Epic 2026 photo dump leading off with a real tight men’s finish followed by the top 3 women across the line and a dramatic 20th place finish when showboating goes wrong.
Then going back in time for some on course action at the head of the race.
Lastly, some more finish scenes and kid’s races glory topping off another edition of the best racing in the U.P.

You can ask anyone, it was a great night to be in Marquette for the start of the after two consecutive years of cancellations. The town was buzzing.
I was a student at in 1991 when I shot the event for the first time while working at . I became obsessed with the fierce canine athletes, and for several years followed the race through the night to the halfway point when it was in Escanaba.
I’ve always used flash and wide-angle lenses for the nighttime shots, but this year I left the flashes and wide-angle at home, and tried out a recently acquired camera that can pretty much see in the dark.
I haven’t followed the race through the night in decades🥱, but I did catch the Wayouts at after the start, and that was pretty cool.

The first 20 riders to come through my spot on Rickles at mile 12 of the 100 mile race this morning.
Not even suffering at this point and none of them took the donuts offered.
These and other riders (and a few walkers) up now at MQTphoto.com.

One of my favorite parts of photographing every year since 2004 is venturing to parts of the course where racers tend to suffer. used one of those photos for an article last year but hardly appears to be suffering. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ll be back again for more this Saturday at the 25th annual Ore to Shore.
Big thanks to for the that allows me to jet into the deeper parts of the course real quick.
