Orr Center for the Humanities (MOCH) leads and supports an array of initiatives aimed at broadening and deepening humanistic inquiry not only within the University of Memphis community but in the city of Memphis and the wider MidSouth region. MOCH-sponsored programming includes large public lectures featuring prominent and provocative thinkers from both the UM faculty and beyond; academic fellowships for UM faculty and graduate students; a video series for recent authors; intimate workshops for faculty and students to share their work in progress; etc. MOCH is active in partnering with UM departments and student groups, as well as other area institutions of higher education, community organizations, and humanities councils in working to advance our common commitment to critical thought, intellectual and ethical reflection, and personal expression.
