St. Patrick's Seminary & University, Menlo Park, California Governance: Most Rev. Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco and Most Rev. Robert F. Christian, OP - President-Rector

St Patrick's Seminary & University has been providing leadership in the formation of Roman Catholic priests since 1898. Currently, we have over 110 seminarians from 16 dioceses on a beautiful 40-acre campus in Menlo Park, California--35 miles south of San Francisco. In the heart of Silicon Valley, we are strategically located to serve the western states. We have a very distinguished program linking the initial and continuing formation of Roman Catholic priests in an international and multi-cultural environment reflective of the populations in the West Coast communities. Most of our faculty members possess doctorates and advanced degrees and we are accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the American Theological Society ( ATS). In 1991, the Vatican recognized us as a Pontifical Seminary, acknowledging the quality of our faculty and our formation program. St. Patrick's Seminary offers the Pontifical STB degree as permitted by the Vatican in addition to the Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Theology. To learn more about us, visit our Web site at www.stpatricksseminary.org .

Mission: St. Patrick's Seminary & University is a Catholic educational community that forms courageous men of reflection and action who live joyous lives as priests.

Archdiocese of San Francisco

ARCHBISHOP CORDILEONE: "Seven months ago the Church here in the Bay Area welcomed the Most Reverend Oscar Cantú as the Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of San Jose. With Pope Francis’ acceptance of the letter of resignation of Bishop Patrick McGrath, Bishop Cantú now succeeds to the office of Diocesan Bishop of San Jose. I join with my brother bishops here in California and the Province of San Francisco in welcoming him as a valued collaborator in the pastoral care of the People of God in our region.

"Bishop Cantú, a native of Texas, has had the opportunity to become familiar with the Bay Area and the unique challenges and opportunities of Silicon Valley, which moves at breakneck speed in imagining and creating newer and better technologies. We are thankful to Pope Francis for sending us such a wise and zealous shepherd of souls.

"Bishop Cantú is a member of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America and the Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs, positions to which he was elected by fellow bishops.

"With this appointment I also recognize with gratitude the many years of service of Bishop Patrick "P.J." McGrath, ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and who served as Auxiliary Bishop here from 1989 to 1998. He held many positions in the Archdiocese, serving as parochial vicar of St. Anne of the Sunset and pastor of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, in the Metropolitan Tribunal, and as Vicar for Clergy, Moderator of the Curia, and Vicar for Parishes. He has earned a restful retirement, and that is my wish for him.

Please keep Bishop Cantú, Bishop McGrath, and the entire Diocese of San Jose in your prayers during this time of transition."

Deacon Benjamin Rosado was ordained to the transitional diaconate April 27. The day before his ordination, he met Catholic San Francisco at St. Patrick's Seminary & University, Menlo Park, California and talked about the devotional practice that helped him discern his vocation.

“I began praying over in St. Bruno’s Church, where they have 24-hour adoration. I started making that a daily practice of mine, going to a Holy Hour, and I think for me it was there in the presence of the Lord that I learned to quiet myself, learned to listen more to God, and experience the power of being in his presence, the power of a God who is physically with us in the sacraments.”

"You're going to be ministering to people and you're going to be giving the people the truth, and in order for you to give them the truth you also must possess that truth and you do that through study."
