Update #14 - Southern University Campus Power Outage

Power Restored Following Sporadic Outages

At approximately 7:45 a.m. today, the Southern University Baton Rouge landmass began experiencing sporadic power outages affecting several academic and residential facilities.

Facilities Services immediately began troubleshooting the campus electrical distribution system in coordination with Entergy and electrical contractors. The outage occurred after a breaker at the Swan Street Utility Substation tripped due to a fault within the campus distribution system.

The power has been restored to the F.G. Clark Activity Center, Southern University Laboratory School, and the majority of affected academic buildings. Generators were deployed to provide temporary service to Bethune, Grandison, Reed and White halls while troubleshooting continued. Residential facilities in the rear of campus were not affected, and the dining facilities at Mayberry and Dunn halls remained operational throughout the outage.

Facilities Services and our electrical partners will continue to monitor and troubleshoot the system as needed.

Homecoming activities scheduled for this evening will proceed as planned.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as the continued work of Facilities Services, Entergy, Ellis Electric, Parish Engineering, and J-Bolt personnel in responding to today's outage and restoring service across the campus.
