As we welcome students back to campus, Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling visited our Broadband Utilities Lab at North Campus to meet students and see MDC’s trades programs in action.

Students in our aerial lineworker program demonstrated the skills they’re learning through our partnership with MasTec, preparing them to help build and maintain fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure across Florida. It’s a model that connects short-term, hands-on training directly to employment opportunities.

Welcome Back Week is a reminder that there is no single path through college. At MDC, students are pursuing associate degrees, earning short-term credentials and training for skilled careers - all with the same goal of entering high-demand fields after they graduate.

National Aviation Day ✈️

MDC launched the Florida Center for Aviation and Aerospace this year, bringing together our aviation programs and creating new opportunities for growth across the field.

Our footprint spans Miami-Dade County - from Homestead Campus and Miami Executive Airport in South Dade to North Campus and Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport in the north. Thousands of students have come through our programs over the years, supported by scholarships and industry connections, and our alumni are now working across aviation and aerospace.

As the industry continues to grow in South Florida, so will our work - with new programs in areas like UAVs and aerospace technology, and expanding partnerships with AAR, American Airlines, BITTS and others

Nina Hernandez isn’t even done with the first week of her senior year at Miami Palmetto Senior High School, and she can already boast that she’s earned her Associate in Arts degree from Miami Dade College. 🎓
 
Through MDC’s Dual Enrollment program at our Kendall Campus, Nina completed college-level coursework while working toward her high school diploma, all while maintaining a 4.9 weighted GPA and competing on Palmetto’s lacrosse team. 🥍
 
She plans to study Medical Science and Society/Public Health, with hopes of attending Vanderbilt University before continuing on to medical or physician assistant school.
 
Congratulations Nina and a special thank you to our partners at Miami Palmetto Senior High School who help make opportunities like this possible for students, especially college counselor Linda Dwyer for her support along the way.
