Yvette for School Board

Yvette for School Board Yvette Walls Dennehey is running for Milford School Board on May 12th. It's time to refocus, create a plan of action, and go to work. Thank you for your support.

Hi - My name is Yvette Dennehy, and I am a native Milfordian and proud graduate of Milford High School. I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, a Master's degree in Education, and teach English and Humanities at Wilmington University. After many years of traveling, in 2001 my husband and I decided to settle in Milford where much of my extended family resides. We have two young children, L

iam who is in fourth grade at Mispillion Elementary, and Keegan who is in kindergarten at Morris. We have a true vested interest in this community; my husband is the Parks & Recreation Director for the City and both of us do our best to volunteer, serve and support organizations and events throughout Milford. I am running for school board because I think we need people on the board who have children in the district, who are willing to put the time in by not only attending meetings, but by showing a true presence within the schools, and people who can see the big picture, but who are also willing to work on the smaller issues that arise as well. A board member needs to be an advocate for students, parents, teachers, and administrators, and needs to set a vision, prioritize goals, and formulate a plan for success. There are many issues facing our district right now, including curriculum, state testing, and of course the state of our finances and the failed referendum, to name a few. We need to create a conversation with this community, and an open door policy where people can share viewpoints and a common ground can be found. Transparency and open and honest discourse are key to the successful future of this district.
