Dawgs around the World: Stefano Gaudio

Dawgs around the World:

Today’s student is Stefano Gaudio from Rome, Italy, and he created this video to show us how to cook “polpetta” (Italian meatballs). Stefano studied physical therapy at Mississippi State as an exchange student during Fall 2019 and is going to graduate from Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata this December. He will be a physical therapist. “I grew up learning how to cook from my relatives because all of my family members cook well. I wanted to prepare tasty meals in the same way as they do. I love cooking because it makes me feel carefree. Most of the times, I listen to music while I cook. This is my first cooking video, and I hope you enjoy it!”

International Student Advisory Board (ISAB)

Dawgs around the World:

Today we highlight our International Student Advisory Board (ISAB). ISAB was founded through a collaborative effort between HCDC and international student leaders at Mississippi State during the 2013-2014 academic year. The idea stemmed from the need for international students from different countries to come together and to provide them with a common voice to solve issues that international students face and improve their experiences. While international student organizations on campus were long established and effective in improving student experiences, they were mostly tailored to students from their respective countries. ISAB was hoped to be a common platform for all international students to come together and serve as their advocate to the larger international community.

This is the video that ISAB and the Student Affairs Marketing Team created for the International Education Week in which ISAB usually organize annual Global Night. Global Night is one of their largest events where student organizations from various countries show case their cultures through dance, music, and food. @International Student Advisory Board - ISAB

Join the MSU Safe Zone Advisory Board & HCDC in a vigil for this year’s Transgender Day of Remembrance this November 20th on IGTV and Facebook!
.
Each year on November 20th, Trans Day of Remembrance is celebrated as a vigil to honor & commemorated all transgender people lost to anti-trans violence. Originally created in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998, this day has become an important tradition as the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (GLAAD, https://www.glaad.org/tdor).
.
A list of those who have lost their lives is memorialized each year by the International Transgender Day of Remembrance informational website at https://tdor.info/ and at each Vigil the list of names of the previous year is read aloud to commemorate the lives of memories of those who should still be with us.
.
Mark your calendars to check on Facebook & IGTV this November 20th for the event. We hope to “see” you there!

Dawgs around the World:

Happy International Education Week at Mississippi State! We will be introducing some of our new international students and their countries and cultures on our social media.

Today, we would like to introduce Dineo Tshosa from Tonota, Botswana. Dineo could not come to the campus this semester due to COVID-19 and is hoping to join us next semester. Dineo will pursue a Ph.D. degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. Having worked with the Paralympic Association of Botswana, the Botswana Deaf Sports Federation, and the Special Olympics Botswana, Dineo’s interest is in making sports and physical activities inclusive to persons who are impaired. Dineo is looking forward to learning more about adapted physical activities and exploring new innovative ways in exercise programs that can accommodate diverse needs.

This is a picture of Dineo taken at one of the local tourist sites called Goo-Moremi gorge. Dineo is holding the country flag of Botswana and posing in front of a baobab tree. "The tree is 800 years old as indicated by its big trunk. The trunks have a cushion like material inside, and the bigger baobab trees trunk were cut open in the past. With that cushion material removed, the trunks were then used as a prison house. In fact, there is still one prison tree that is still standing in one of the villages."
