Ever wondered how airplane parts are made? Here’s your chance to find out. ✈️

Mississippi State is the state’s new ACE Composites Hub! Our IDEELab and MSU’s Advanced Composites Institute are offering hands-on training in aerospace composites. You’ll take an online course, then spend a week in the lab building the skills aerospace companies are hiring for. It’s open to students, community members and local employees at no cost, and travel, lodging and meals support is available for those who qualify.

Mississippi State set an Elite World Record for the most cowbells rung simultaneously on Sept. 26 during the football team's win over Missouri, with 41,819 fans clanging their bells. 🔔

Earlier in the day, the IDEELab helped 209 young Bulldog fans build cowbells of their own, and for many, it was their first.

Turning real-world engineering challenges into practical solutions.

At the IDEE Lab, we focus on developing engineering solutions that bridge the gap between research and real-world industry applications.

One example is our impact wrench performance verification project, developed in collaboration with Milwaukee Tool. Led by Dr. Ke Yuan, an assistant professor in MSU's Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering, Amir Hossein Ebrahim Pour, PhD student Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering, and Joao Camacho, undergraduate student at MSU's Michael W.Hall School of Mechanical Engineering.

Evaluating impact wrench performance presents unique challenges due to the highly dynamic nature of these tools. Our research focuses on developing a test system that can evaluate performance accurately, consistently, and under realistic operating conditions.

The testbed enables simultaneous measurement of torque and rotational speed, providing valuable data for evaluating tool performance. Beyond measurement accuracy, the system is designed with repeatability, safety, simplicity, and ease of use in mind—allowing an operator to install a tool, perform a test, and obtain results with minimal setup.

This project represents what we aim to achieve at the IDEE Lab: transforming engineering research into practical solutions for real-world industry challenges.

Such an incredible week at IMTS 2026!

We had an amazing time showcasing to attendees of all ages—from future engineers to industry professionals—how we bring innovation to life by manufacturing our iconic cowbells right from our booth.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to Matthew Draper!!
- Program Manager, Industrial Manufacturing (IBAS & DPA Title III) at Office of the Under Secretary of War for Acquisition & Sustainment

Thank you for taking the time to visit us at IMTS. It was unforgettable to have industry leaders like him experience our project firsthand. Having this support and insight is what makes all of this possible!
