Salsa, the Untrainable Alpaca | Karen Pryor Clicker Training

Great article on working with "untrainable" Alpacas.
This really applies to all species. https://www.clickertraining.com/salsa-the-untrainable-alpaca

I have always enjoyed alpacas and appreciated their gentle nature. About 16 months ago, I heard about a nearby alpaca ranch that had more than one thousand alpacas that were going to be slaughtered for meat later that week. I went to check the place out; I had no plans to adopt any alpacas that day,...

We LOVE that The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BCSPCA) has developed dog training standards and an accreditation system to help people find good quality dog trainers. Their standards are evidence-based and focus on the emotional welfare of the dog. Wouldn't it be great if this was a thing in the US?

How low-stress handling changed one patient's life

A student brought up a question in rounds this week about a patient that was becoming more fearful during his stay in the hospital after a scheduled elective procedure. What could be done to reduce his fear and anxiety? How could we make his experience more positive? What a great question! I found this article today in Veterinary Practice News that answers that question and thought I would share: https://www.veterinarypracticenews.com/how-low-stress-handling-changed-one-patients-life/?fbclid=IwAR0cGhMwLGTr1U7ITutF1KIHjrEHbyvl325i-pI6X629QlHrKQdpKxspZwY

Teaching Jenny to trim her own nails. Trying to decide on two 2x4s screwed together vs a cutting board. The cutting board will be lighter, maybe easier for me to handle, and Jenny's pretty delicate, unlikely to whack at it too hard. This scratchboard looks pretty solid though!
