Celebrate National Medal of Honor Day on March 25th.
Since 1863, more than 3,500 Medal of Honor have been awarded. Hearing Taps being played can bring a humbling mindset of remembering those who passed and those who live on from going beyond their call to duty.

In the meantime, let's get to know Veterans here on campus who served and continued persevering in completing their degree:

I'd like to introduce Dr. Ravine:

"I am a retired Air Force Biomedical Laboratory Officer with my last duty station being Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. I started my AF career in 1975 as an airman (enlisted) working in finance. While overseas, I also served as a Security Police (SP) augmentee, which developed into a secondary job. I left the AF after 4.5 years as a buck sergeant (E4), a rank designation which no longer exists, to finish college. I completed both bachelor and master’s degrees while separated and then accepted a commission in the AF as a 1st lieutenant in 1985. I completed my Ph.D. in Pathology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA in 1993 being sponsored by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). I retired as a major in 2001 and started teaching at the University of South Alabama in 2002. I have been teaching anatomy & physiology and microbiology since then."

"The Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act was also introduced in the 116th and 117th Congresses and passed the House in 2022 with bipartisan support. It ensures that Guard and Reservists receive credit for every day they spend in uniform in a federal duty status under Titles 10 or 32 for GI Bill purposes. This means every day conducting operations, training, attending military schools, conducting weekend drill and annual training requirements, or responding to national disasters would count towards earning the Post-9/11 GI Bill."-SVA Facebook

House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee Ranking Member Mike Levin (CA-49) has reintroduced the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2024 (HR 7543) to ensure National Guard and Reservists servicemembers receive Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility for every day they spend...
