WVU’s Peace Corps Prep students had a fantastic day in Pittsburgh!

First stop was meeting with Betty Cruz, President and CEO, and Kathleen Newell, Director of Youth Programming (and RPCV), of Pittsburgh’s World Affairs Council. We heard about their youth and adult public programs, educating the Pittsburgh community about important global issues.

We then had a yummy lunch at City Kitchen followed by Jenni’s Ice Cream.

Next stop was meeting with Jenna Baron, Executive Director, and Morgan Puterbaugh, Director of Operations, of ARYSE, to learn about their programming for refugee youth.

We then visited The Mattress Factory, welcomed by Danny Bracken, Director of Exhibitions. None of us had ever been to this art museum and had an experience we’ll never forget.

Quick stops to Randy Land and City of Asylum and then delicious Nepalese food, hosted at Navus House with friends and more RPCVs! .pgh and

WVU Peace Corps Prep students were thrilled to attend the MLK Unity Breakfast sponsored by the Center for Black Culture. We enjoyed celebrating the award recipients and hearing from keynote speaker Jeneisha Harris, a community activist leader from Nashville, TN. As aspiring international service leaders, our Peace Corps Prep students seek to learn from experienced, effective change-makers!

Congratulations to Wren King who is our Spring 2023 graduate of the Peace Corps Prep Program! Wren joined the program as a freshman and has gone on to help lead the Global Medical and Dental Brigades service program to Panama, which was their leadership project for Peace Corps Prep.

We are proud of the work they have done as a triple major in Anthropology, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Geography, with a minor in Native American Studies! Wren’s resume from the past four years is long and impressive, and we know this is just the start of their life-long career of making the world a better place!

Last night Peace Corps Prep students volunteered with the WVU Campus Food Garden at their Westover location. We learned about their work providing food to students and the community. Our job was to helped transfer seedlings for a variety of vegetable plants that were then taken to the community food garden at First Presbyterian Church in Morgantown.

Thank you to the WVU Campus Food Garden staff for letting us learn and help for an evening!
