I’m in New York this week with my Model UN students. So far, it’s been a great visit, including a briefing at Singapore’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. We’ve had some long days, (giddy) late night debriefings, many Starbucks runs, and great food! Tonight, several of us will see a show and tomorrow we go to the UN!

A lot of good information about the value of the liberal arts in this piece, but here's what you really need to know:

"...there is one major takeaway, says Mangan. Whatever a student pursues in university, it must be something that they aren’t just good at, but they really enjoy.

“In most areas that I can see, the employer just wants to know that you’ve been to college and you’ve done well. That’s why I think doing something that really interests you is essential – because that’s when you’re going to do well,” she says."

Why bother with degrees like History or English? Here’s why the liberal arts could leave you better prepared for employment than you think.

Please spread the word! Once the Peter Lawler endowed scholarship reaches a balance of $100,000, his office in Evans Hall will be named in his memory. We're getting close, but still need more help. You can find additional details in the link below. And please share to your networks! There are a lot of Dr. Lawler's friends and former students who may not see this page.

We had a great time today the the Government Department Mountain Day Picnic. We were able to reconnect with alumni from over the years and to remember Professor Lawler. We’ll post more highlights in the days ahead.

10/07/2017

We’ve got dark clouds in Mount Berry this morning, but the forecasted chance of rain is slight. Our picnic is still on! Should it rain this afternoon, we’ll move from the Evans lawn into the Evans foyer (at the entrance facing the south lawn).
