It’s time to introduce our last E-Board officer for this school year…

Now introducing our President, JoLee Hurren! 🎵

“Hi everyone! My name is JoLee, and I am a fourth year music education major who plays the violin. This year I’m super excited to work with the other officers to have an enjoyable and learning-filled MASTA experience, as well as attend the National ASTA Conference next semester! I am also way beyond excited to play the orchestra program this fall and get to know all our incoming students :)”

Olive is entering her third-year as a Music Education and Cello Performance Major.

“This year, I’m looking forward to serving as our MASTA chapter’s vice president! I am also looking forward to all of the new music I will get to fall in love with, from solo repertoire, to orchestral works, and anything else that comes my way!”

Now introducing our SGA Representative, Sawyer Hamilton:

“Hey everyone! My name is Sawyer and I’m the Student Government Advisor of the CMU ASTA Chapter. I am a Music Education Major in my junior year and I am a part of the Viola studio. I’m excited to meet all the new musicians this year and I look forward to learning with you all!”

With the beginning of the semester just around the corner, it’s time to introduce our 26-27 MASTA E-Board! 🎶

First up is our treasurer, Sammy Heyart:

“Hi! I’m Sammy and I’m the treasurer of the CMU MASTA chapter! I am a sophomore music education major, and this year I am so excited to be a part of the leadership in MASTA, and learning so much more about string pedagogy.”

And it’s time for our last summer check-in! Let’s see what Olive has been up to 🎵🔥

“This summer I have been busy teaching my private students, spending as much time in nature as I can, and I even got to be a camp counselor at CMU’s Summer Music Institute. Playing music with students has been the biggest joy of my summer so far. I have also gotten to enjoy spending time with family, making art with my cats, camping with my partner, and playing my secondary instrument, the banjo!

This summer I got the opportunity to play at the BayView Chamber Music Festival where I worked on Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 and Haydn’s Sunrise Quartet with a quartet of amazing musicians. Thanks to all the great people I met at BayView who helped me grow as a person and a musician.“

Who’s to return to CMU in a month? Our MASTA chapter is! 🔥🆙

Let’s see what our members have been up to this summer… starting with Paige Baird!

“Hello! My name is Paige, I play the viola and I’m a Instrumental Music Education Major here at CMU. This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Italy to study with Dr. Alicia Valoti, the viola professor here at CMU, as well as Dr. Hasse Borup and his wife Dr. Kasia Sokol-Borup from the University of Utah. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to grow as a violist and visit such a beautiful country at the same time! Special thanks to all of my new friends at the University of Utah, getting to create music and explore Italy with them was an incredible experience.

Highlight: While on this trip, I got to meet up with a friend who lives in Italy. We met during her time as a foreign exchange student during high school, and I’m so happy that 4 years later we were able to see each other again!”

✨Upcoming Recital!✨Member Jimmy will be having a cello recital this week, May 2nd at First Presbyterian at 4 pm. Featuring works by Prokofiev, Bach, and Kabalevsky. Please join us to support his performance and celebrate all of his hard work!

The members of the ASTA Chapter are no stranger to how busy the end of the semester can be… between recitals, exams, concerts, and juries - a lot adds up! Due to this, we will not be having any more meetings the semester. Wishing everyone a great rest of the school year and good luck! 🎻🔥⬆️
