We had a great turnout for our CPSY Rock Painting event last night in honor of Good Deeds Day. Around 40 students and faculty from our programs painted rocks that will be hidden around campus for others to find. Students enjoyed cake, cookies, pizza, and soup brought in by faculty. Thanks to all who shared food and art supplies for this event!

Social media has changed how children and adolescents connect, cope, compare, and understand themselves. But focusing only on screen-time limits or training parents how to monitor their screen can cause clinicians to miss the needs driving that use. In this session, participants will briefly examine current patterns and concerns related to social media, including a reflection of their own use. This session will also explore the emotional, relational, and developmental skills beneath social media use and how that impacts mental wellness and social connection. Participants will learn a practical framework for identifying what young people may be seeking through social media, including belonging, validation, distraction, identity development, emotional regulation, and relief from discomfort. The session will provide assessment questions, intervention strategies, and developmentally appropriate tools that clinicians can use to help children and adolescents build resilience, strengthen offline relationships, tolerate difficult emotions, and engage with social media more intentionally.

Session presented by Beth Trammell, PhD, HSPP.

For this World Su***de Prevention Day, start the conversation on su***de by challenging harmful myths, reducing stigma, and fostering open, compassionate conversations about su***de. It is about shifting from silence and misunderstanding to openness, empathy, and support, creating environments where people feel able to speak up and seek help.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health here on campus, please reach out to a trusted person-be it a friend, professor, academic advisor, the BSU Counseling Center , or a classmate. Ball State also has a 24/7 Crisis Line for students which can be reached by calling 765-285-HOPE (4673).

Every chat, no matter how small, builds a more supportive and understanding society. Together, we can make a difference and prioritize su***de prevention, ensuring everyone gets the help they need.
