Tennessee State University is the first university in Middle Tennessee to graduate physical therapists. The Department of Physical Therapy offered the Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (BSPT) in the 1990s, the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) in the early 2000s, and the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree since 2006.

We are proud to celebrate our 2nd-year student, Devin Jackson, for presenting at the National Strength and Conditioning Association Conference in New Orleans this weekend! We love seeing our students pursue opportunities beyond the classroom, excel professionally and represent our program. Read more about Devin’s research below!

Devin Jackson’s research investigated sex-based differences in neuromuscular activation during the vertical jump. Using surface electromyography (EMG), muscle activity of the re**us femoris, biceps femoris, and gluteus maximus was recorded as trained male and female participants performed three maximal vertical jumps. The study evaluated muscle activation patterns to better understand how sex/training age may influence explosive lower-extremity performance.
