SCSU Earth Science students and faculty attended the 61st annual Northeastern Section Meeting of the Geological Society of America this past week. From attending technical sessions to mentor luncheons, everyone learned and took advantage of the networking opportunities. Three of our majors successfully presented the results of their research projects on work done in Connecticut and Vermont. Great job, Gary, Wyatt and Arrebah! Dr. Cooper Boemmels co-chaired a session on Mesozoic Magmatism and Postrift Techtonics and presented research results on her work in Vermont. &sciences

This past summer, some of our students and faculty conducted field research exploring evidence for ancient volcanic activity preserved in the bedrock of central Vermont.

Monday, September 8th, we held our Informational Session/Pizza Social. As our scholars enjoyed pizza, and meeting each other as well as our faculty and staff, we also discussed Career Options and applying to Graduate Schools.

On Wednesday, August 27th, we had people join us for our Week of Welcome event, breaking Geodes in the rock garden. It was wonderful to see everyone who came out to break geodes, and talk a little about Earth Science.

This past weekend there were several students from the Earth Science department from Southern Connecticut State University who attended the 2025 Joint Northeast North-Central Section Meeting of the Geological Society of America. ⚒
