September marks Sickle Cell Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the more than 100,000 people in the United States living with sickle cell disease—a condition that most commonly affects Black and African American communities, with 1 in every 365 births impacted. Individuals with sickle cell disease face serious health challenges, from severe pain and acute anemia to organ damage and strokes. Because their red blood cells are misshapen and can’t easily carry oxygen or move through blood vessels, patients often require frequent blood transfusions—sometimes as many as 100 units per year.
This September, the women of Pi Lambda Zeta chapter were proud to support the American Red Cross Sickle Cell Blood Drive in Bridgeport. Donating blood can directly alleviate the symptoms of sickle cell disease and, in many cases, help save lives. Join us in making a difference: your donation could be the lifeline someone needs. Today, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated honors the legacy and uplifts the men of Iota Phi Theta, as they celebrate their 63rd Anniversary.

Since its founding in 1963, the brown and gold have stood as a beacon of fortitude, purposefully built to advocate for the rights of our people and champion social and economic justice for the overlooked and underserved.

Born out of a pivotal moment in history, Iota became a movement. At Morgan State University, twelve visionary founders: Albert Hicks, Lonnie Spruill, Jr., Charles Briscoe, Frank Coakley, John Slade, Barron Willis, Webster Lewis, Charles Brown, Louis Hudnell, Charles Gregory, Elias Dorsey, Jr., and Michael Williams - united around a shared commitment to maturity, community, and civic engagement. Refusing to be mere spectators, they became architects of change.
