Una Chaudhuri, this month's Faculty Feature, joined in 1982 and will step into the role of Interim Dean of NYU's Graduate School of Arts & Science in September 2026. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

She completed her undergraduate and master’s studies at Delhi University, India, and her PhD in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, where she specialized in twentieth-century European drama. Una helped establish the fields of environmental humanities and animal studies, leading their integration with theatre and performance studies.

Una has been privileged to chair the Department of English at NYU Arts & Science and the Department of Drama at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, head the NYU Abu Dhabi Theater Program, direct the master’s program in Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement (XE), and serve as Dean of Humanities at NYU Arts & Science.

bryant terry (GSAS ʼ01) is a multidisciplinary artist, author, publisher, and James Beard Award-winning chef. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

He has written five acclaimed cookbooks and is also the founder and editor-in-chief of 4 Color Books, an imprint of Ten Speed Press/Penguin Random House, where he collaborates with visionary writers, artists, and chefs to expand the possibilities of contemporary nonfiction publishing. His studio practice explores resilience, memory, and liberation through sculpture, photography, sound, video, and social practice.

Earning an MFA in art practice from UC Berkeley in 2025 and an MA in history from NYU's Graduate School of Arts & Science, bryant continues to work across disciplines and will co-teach Edible Education 101 at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business in spring 2027, a course that examines food as a lens through which to understand ecology, culture, public health, business, and social transformation.

This month's Faculty Feature is Kathleen Gerson, a sociologist, award-winning author, and recognized authority on the intertwined revolutions in gender, work, and family life at NYU Arts & Science. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

Kathleen joined the NYU faculty more than four decades ago after completing her graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She has served NYU and her field in several administrative and professional capacities, including as Chair of the Sociology Department, president of the Eastern Sociological Society, and vice president of the American Sociological Association.

Aminata Drame (GLS ʼ21, WAG ʼ24) is a proud Bronx, New York native with a passion for public service that was sparked during her junior year abroad in Paris, France with NYU Liberal Studies. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

Living in a vibrant city, both foreign and familiar, she discovered striking parallels between Parisian communities and her own Bronx upbringing. There, she volunteered with Serve the City, distributing food to homeless individuals and refugees, and interned at Relais 59, a social center supporting low-income immigrant communities in the 12th arrondissement.

Today, in a true full-circle moment, Aminata serves as an academic advisor at NYU Liberal Studies, guiding students through their First Year Global experience in Madrid, Spain and Washington, D.C.

Our next Faculty Feature is Michael Purugganan, who was recently appointed as the Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean for NYU Arts & Science after serving for a year as interim dean. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

He joined NYU Arts & Science in 2006 and is a Silver Professor of Biology and affiliated faculty of the NYU Institute for the Study of the Ancient World and NYU Abu Dhabi. Michael has served NYU Arts & Science in several administrative capacities, including as divisional dean for science, academic director of 19 Washington Square North, director of the NYU Center for Genomics and Systems Biology, and founding co-director of the NYU Abu Dhabi Center for Genomics and Systems Biology.

While she initially felt writing wasn't her strongest suit, her desire to ask deep questions and explore the world led her from Toronto, Ontario to the NYU Graduate School of Arts & Science. Pursuing her master's at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute became the ultimate way to fuse her interests from the culinary arts to psychology into a dynamic path.
