Our latest Alumni Feature is Dr. Rahoul Masrani (LS, CAS ʼ04). For Rahoul, New York University represents both where his global journey began and where his work as an educator thrives today. Rahoul’s international academic path started as an undergraduate student studying abroad at NYU Florence during the 2000–2001 academic year. That formative experience sparked a lifelong connection to Italy, ultimately drawing him back to live in Florence in 2019 and to join the NYU Florence faculty as a global lecturer in 2022.

His research explores the intersection of technology, power, and pedagogy, touching on topics as diverse as urban cinema and global cities, as well as digital sociology and artificial intelligence in higher education.

We are excited to announce that Fernando Ferrer (ARTS ’72) is the 2026 recipient of the NYU College of Arts & Science Alumni Achievement Award! https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

This award is presented each fall during NYU Alumni & Families Weekend to a respected and distinguished graduate of the College (or any of its predecessor academic units) who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement and/or service and has embodied the spirit of distinction that brings pride to the University.

Fernando earned his BA from New York University’s University College of Arts and Science and his MPA from Baruch College of the City University of New York. He has served as a member of the New York City Council and borough president of the Bronx. Having brought a wealth of public policy experience in planning, public finance, and management to public and private sector positions over his career, he retired as co-chairman of Mercury, a high-stakes public strategy firm.

This month's Faculty Feature is Bruce Grant, who joined NYU Arts & Science in 2005, bringing a distinguished record of interdisciplinary work in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

Affiliated with NYU’s programs in Near Eastern Studies and Russian and Slavic Studies, he soon became engaged in NYU’s global network. He has taught J Term courses in Soviet cinema for several years at NYU Prague and has done extensive service for both the NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai campuses.

Bruce previously served as vice dean of NYU's Graduate School of Arts & Science and recently served as chair of the NYU Arts & Science Department of Anthropology. He is a past president of the Society for Cultural Anthropology, an interdisciplinary wing of the American Anthropological Association, as well as the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. In the fall of 2025, his life moved two blocks to the east from anthropology to NYU Liberal Studies, where he has been serving as Interim Dean.

NYU Liberal Studies invites you to the annual Global Lecture. This year’s event, Making Worlds: Art, Food, Memory, and the Futures We Create, will feature an interactive multimedia talk from award-winning interdisciplinary artist, vegan chef, publisher, and scholar bryant terry (GSAS '01). He will engage in conversation with Liberal Studies professor Dr. Cammie Kim Lin.

Drawing on histories of the African diaspora, terry works across art, food, publishing, and social practice. The lecture explores how acts of making can transform memory, landscapes, and everyday cultural practices into sites of imagination, connection, and collective possibility. terry invites audiences to consider new ways of understanding the past and envisioning more just and abundant futures.

Una Chaudhuri, this month's Faculty Feature, joined in 1982 and will step into the role of Interim Dean of NYU's Graduate School of Arts & Science in September 2026. https://linktr.ee/nyuartsandsciencealumni

She completed her undergraduate and master’s studies at Delhi University, India, and her PhD in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University, where she specialized in twentieth-century European drama. Una helped establish the fields of environmental humanities and animal studies, leading their integration with theatre and performance studies.

Una has been privileged to chair the Department of English at NYU Arts & Science and the Department of Drama at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, head the NYU Abu Dhabi Theater Program, direct the master’s program in Experimental Humanities & Social Engagement (XE), and serve as Dean of Humanities at NYU Arts & Science.
