Methuen Drama, Bloomsbury Publishing UK has published Sound of the Moon and Other Plays by Myung-Wha Kim, translated and edited by Walter Byongsok Chon, in collaboration with English language translation consultant Anne M. Hamilton, (E-book: April 30. Hard copy: May 28).

Myung-Wha Kim is one of the most respected active Korean playwrights (also a director, critic, and artistic director). This volume is the first translated play collection of a female Korean playwright by a translator working from Korean to English.

The volume contains Birds Don’t Use a Crosswalk, Oedipus: The Fate of the Story, Sound of the Moon, and The Wind’s Desire. While these plays reflect specific Korean sentiments and sensibilities, these stories have international appeal. The questions they pose about art, love, family, politics, and society transcend cultural and national boundaries.

It is an excellent resource for everyone interested in contemporary Korean plays.

This volume was created with the support of two Bogliasco Foundation Fellowships (Chon, Hamilton, 2024).
