SUNY Optometry is dedicated to the education of optometrists, the advancement of eye and vision care

Founded in 1971 and located in New York City, the State University of New York College of Optometry is a leader in education, research, and patient care, offering the Doctor of Optometry degree as well as MS and PhD degrees in vision science. Its patient care facility, University Eye Center, is one of the largest eye and vision clinics in the country with 70,000 patient visits annually. The College conducts a robust program of basic, translational, and clinical research and has 65 affiliated clinical training sites.

Congratulations to members of the SUNY Optometry community Manoj Manoharan, Stephen Dellostritto, and Manish Subedi, who were selected as 2026 William C. Ezell Fellows by the American Academy of Optometry Foundation!

One of the Foundation’s most prestigious programs, the Ezell Fellowship supports graduate students pursuing advanced study and training in eye and vision-related research.

The three were recognized at Academy 2026 for their work and potential contributions to the future of optometric research and education.

Last week, the inaugural Advancing Vision Summit brought together leaders in AI, eye care and public health for a day of conversation and connection.

A big thank you to our speakers for sharing their expertise and perspectives, and to our sponsors for helping make the day possible. Between sessions, attendees connected at our sponsor activation tables and grabbed coffee in SUNY Optometry Foundation's 70th anniversary cups, a small nod to the milestone year we’re celebrating.

Taking care of our SUNY community this fall 💙

SUNY College of Optometry partnered with CVS to host an internal flu and COVID-19 vaccination event, giving students, faculty and staff an easy way to stay up to date on their vaccinations.

Research at SUNY College of Optometry is helping shape the future of myopia management.

Through the Clinical Vision Research Center (CVRC), SUNY Optometry participated in a clinical research trial that contributed to the clinical data supporting the recent FDA authorization of the Essilor Stellest spectacle lens. The lens is now available to patients and families in the U.S. to help slow myopia progression in children, marking an important milestone in spectacle lens technology.

What makes this achievement especially meaningful is seeing the impact of that research reach patients directly. A patient recently seen at the University Eye Center is now wearing the newly authorized lens.

This is the power of clinical research: advancing innovation today to help improve patient care tomorrow.

Bridging science and patient care 🔬👁️

This summer marked the first year of INSIGHT, a new competitive program from SUNY Optometry that gives students the opportunity to explore both vision science and clinical care.

Over eight weeks, our student worked with Dr. Sayan Ghosh in the lab while also shadowing in the clinic under Dr. Joy Harewood. The experience offered a closer look at how scientific discovery can inform the way we understand and care for patients.

INSIGHT builds on the foundation of our Eye-CARE program and reflects our commitment to creating meaningful pathways into optometry. We’re grateful to VSP Vision for supporting this opportunity for the next generation of eye care professionals.
