ODU College of Arts & Letters Old Dominion University

Step into the office of Fran Hassencahl, Ph.D., a professor who has taught at Old Dominion University since 1976, and you are immersed in a half-century of ideas, exploration and whimsy. On shelves above and near her desk, figurines, flags, fabrics, spices, plants and photos jostle for space. A toy....

Opportunity for Journalists
Source: PolicyLink on LinkedIn

📰 Calling all student journalists: come join PolicyLink Summit’s daily news team.

PolicyLink is recruiting a group of student journalists to cover PolicyLink Summit 2026 (August 24–28 in the Washington, DC, area) — reporting live, working with an editor, and producing a daily print newspaper delivered to thousands of attendees each morning.

This cohort of student journalists will work in a real newsroom: reporting during the day, then writing, editing, and laying out the paper each night to hit a hard deadline before it goes to print. Along the way, they'll get an inside look at the legal, regulatory, and structural reform discussions shaping the next era of policy — plus access to conversations with leaders in the field just for this cohort.

Selected students will receive free registration to Summit, travel, hotel accommodations, meals, and a $1,200 stipend.

We’re looking for current or recent college journalists to work as writers, editors, and layout editors ready for a fast-paced, late-night newsroom environment.

📅 Applications are due July 31 — link below for full details and how to apply:

The Knowledge and Creativity Expo is just ONE WEEK away!

Today we continue our Student Spotlight Series for the Expo with Zashayrah Z. Iglesias.

Zashayrah’s presentation, Medical Devices in the Dance World, features research into the relationships between disability and dance education.

Zashayrah says, “Using my own lived experiences and interviews with experts in adaptive dance education, I show that anyone can be a dancer and that the “standards” or “criteria” gatekeepers use to decide who can be a dancer need to be rethought and reorganized. Ultimately, this research shows that inclusiveness in the dance world is important, not only for disabled communities but also, and especially, for non-disabled people.”

Head to our bio for the link for more information about Zashayrah’s project being presented at the Knowledge and Creativity Expo on April 22 from 1pm to 2pm in the Big Blue Room of Chartway Arena.

Check back for our next spotlight tomorrow!
