NANCY SMITH Obituary - New York, NY | New York Times

It was such an honor to have Nancy teaching at Smith College only this Spring semester in the historic Crew House where so much fabulous Contact Improvisation took place over the years. In her last class, Nancy shared amazing archival footage of her dancing with Karen Nelson and Andrew Harwood in the very same Crew House. It was truly a special homecoming...and a sweet goodbye to a master teacher and giving human being.

SMITH--Nancy Stark, age 68, a writer, editor, and dancer who co-founded the contemporary dance form called Contact Improvisation, died of ovarian cancer at home in Florence, MA, on Friday, May 1, 2020

Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) at Jacob's Pillow returns this Fall beginning with a 2-day intensive professional development course (October 19th -20th). This course is for dance educators and anyone interested in movement as a teaching technique using Laban Movement Analysis. Scholarships are available! As a former Hampshire College student, the DEL Essentials Workshop has been incredibly valuable in my teaching, as well as in creating and executing my Division III project (senior thesis) last year, From House to Home. Through the workshop, I was able to connect with many fellow artists and educators. Also, I received a very generous scholarship, which made it possible for me to attend. Please reach out to me, Quinn Davis at [email protected], if you have any questions about the workshop, logistics, or how DEL can relate to your studies. I hope you can spend a beautiful Berkshires Fall weekend moving with us! DEL at Jacob's Pillow is made possible by Jody & john Arnhold and the Arnhold Foundation. Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) is founded by Jody Gottfried Arnhold.
