Virginia Shirley - Art Painting in oils is a delicious way to spend the day! All of my work is done in oil pigments on canvas. Or come to the studio to see what's in the works!

My art studio is located in the Kentuck Arts Center in downtown Northport, just across the river from Tuscaloosa and The University of Alabama. After many years of representation by galleries throughout the southeast, I have taken a step forward to represent my own work and to supply it to a very small number of art galleries and specialty shops. My paintings can be viewed here on Facebook as well

My North Alabama art studio is in the old barn next to a spring branch and with a view into our bowl-shaped cove located between mountains above Paint Rock Valley. The spring branch flows down a long waterfall and into nearby Larkin Fork Creek, which joins the Estillfork to form the beautiful Paint Rock River. This is along the Cumberland Plateau of the Appalachian Mountains. This all sounds lovely, and yet I spent the morning cleaning out winter’s collection of mouse work - they must be tiny little critters to get inside, but somehow they feel the effort is worth it.

I love having this isolated studio, but I equally love my more social spot at Kentuck Art Center, just across the Black Warrior River from downtown Tuscaloosa. It’s a vibrant location with just as much inspiration for me, although in a quite different way!

The pollen thinks it has defeated me, but I have a secret weapon. I’ve tried all the ordinary stuff: anti-histamines, vitamins, saline nasal rinses, cough syrups, and I have kept it from declaring victory. But now I am calling in the big guns and have made an appointment with my Dr’s office. It’s time for the big shot and some prescription meds. So there!
