University of Notre Dame Pow Wow A Gathering of the Midwest April of 2013 will mark the First Annual University of Notre Dame Pow Wow.

During this weekend in April, the Notre Dame community will welcome thousands of Native Americans for one of the largest gatherings in the midwest.

General information

Pow Wows are large social gatherings of Native Americans who participate in dances steeped in tradition and influenced by contemporary society. Pow Wows are attended by both Natives and non-Natives; communities gather to partake in drum music, dancing, singing, artistry, and food. During a Pow Wow, the audience watches dancers dressed in their full regalia compete in various dance categories. All the while, the dancers’ movements are accompanied by the drum groups, the thundering heartbeat of any Pow Wow.
