Meet Zada Ballew ✨

She is a Moreau Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of American Studies! ☘️

Q: What class are you teaching in Spring 2027?

A: This spring, I’ll be offering a new course called, “Native Americans and Notre Dame.” It’s an introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies told from the perspective of Notre Dame.

Q: What are your research interests?

A: I study Native American business history from the fur trade in the 1600s to casinos today. I tell stories about how tribal nations, including my own, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, have used business as a strategy to survive as a people and maintain our sovereignty.

Q: What are you most excited about for the Spring semester?

A: The students, of course! I loved my time at ND (class of 2019), and am so grateful for the opportunity to help make students’ years on campus equally as special. Drop by my office anytime!

Q: What is a fun or interesting fact about you?

A: My husband and I are obsessed with pickleball and play together as doubles partners. As he likes to say, “If you’re looking for a soft serve, go get some ice cream!”
