Seeking----

Lisa- Female (20-35). Calm and composed one moment, explosive the next. Having witnessed domestic violence at the hands of her father as a child, she unknowingly repeats the cycle of abuse in her own marriage. This emotionally complex role requires an actor who can portray both vulnerability and volatility.

Ray/Mr. Joe- Dual role. Male. Ray: A young, controlling father whose abusive behavior perpetuates the cycle of domestic violence. Portrays intensity, manipulation, and emotional volatility.
Mr. Joe: An older, wise, compassionate husband and father who embodies strength, protection, and unconditional love. This dual role calls for an actor with the range to portray two contrasting men whose choices reflect opposite paths of manhood and fatherhood.

With This Ring (WTR) addresses the issue of domestic violence as experienced through the lives of victims of abuse. As children, newlywed Lisa and her brother Derrick witness the vicious abuse and murder of their mother at the hands of their drunken father. Both Lisa and Derrick are marked by this tragedy and carry the horrifying memory of abuse with them. Scared by domestic violence at such a formative time in their lives, both Lisa and Derrick continue the cycle of violence in their own romantic relationships. In "WTR", Lisa and Derrick both reach the tipping point when they must decide if they will seek healing or continue the cycle of violence that stole their childhood innocence.

Celebrating Women’s History Month with Danielle Deadwyler 📺🎥🎭🔥Growing up in Atlanta, where Deadwyler still lives today, Black creativity was the city’s “source blood,” says the 43-year-old performance artist, actor, and filmmaker. She studied at local institutions like the Marlene Rounds School of Dance, graduated with a history degree from Spelman College, earned an M.A. from Columbia University and an M.F.A. from Ohio’s Ashland University.

Deadwyler planned to pursue a career in academia and perform only part-time. But, after taking a job as an elementary school teacher in her hometown, she quickly realized that she needed to give all of herself over to art. After a successful start in local theater, Deadwyler made a name for herself on TV shows like Atlanta, Watchmen, and Station Eleven. A memorable supporting turn in the 2021 neo-Western The Harder They Fall led to her breakout film role the following year in Till.

Deadwyler is developing a film adaptation of Ann Petry’s 1946 debut novel, The Street, the first book by a Black woman to sell more than a million copies. It’s just one of the many works by Black female authors that she hopes to bring to the stage or screen in the future. “I want to be a tree, extending a branch in all directions,” Deadwyler says. “Enabling others in my community to grow in the ways they need to.”
