Resistance is not a one lane highway….
“Maybe your lane is protesting, maybe your lane is organizing, maybe your lane is counseling, maybe your lane is art activism, maybe your lane is surviving the day.” Do NOT feel guilty for not occupying every lane. We need all of them.” – Lindsay Young
For us last week, it was joining the movement. For us this week, it is to start donating and continuing to have/facilitate conversations here at work with our colleagues. It is educating ourselves to recognize our own biases and ignorance, and it’s the daily changes we make to overcome those biases. As pediatricians we know that racism harms children’s health starting even before they are born. As our current AAP president has eloquently put: “We must dismantle racism at every level, from individual to institutional to systemic. Our nation did not get here overnight, and the road to progress and healing will be long and difficult, but the work we have before us is essential. Our children’s future will be built on these moments of reckoning.”
We are excited to support this amazing organization – The Conscious Kid! "The Conscious Kid is an education, research and policy organization dedicated to reducing bias and promoting positive identity development in youth. We partner with organizations, children’s museums, schools, and families across the country to promote access to children’s books centering underrepresented and oppressed groups."
We encourage anyone who is able to donate, whether to this great organization or the hundreds of others!
