🩺 Scrub In! It’s Surgery Lab Time! 🥼🏥

Our South College Orlando Physician Assistant students got a hands-on introduction to the operating room during their recent Surgery Lab!
Students practiced proper surgical scrubbing techniques, learned how to don sterile gowns, and explored the instruments and tools commonly used in the OR.

Students also had the opportunity to learn from Tracey Leetom, BS, CST, one of South College Orlando’s Surgical Technology faculty members, who introduced them to the process of creating and maintaining a sterile field in the surgical suite.

👏 These essential skills help build confidence, reinforce sterile techniques, and prepare our future PAs for real-world surgical environments. It’s another great example of how collaboration across programs enhances the hands-on learning experience at South College Orlando!

Our South College Orlando Physician Assistant students explored the fascinating world of the nervous system!

Through hands-on learning, students gained a deeper understanding of how the brain, spinal cord, and nerves work together, building essential knowledge for their future careers in patient care.

Today, our Class of 2027 and Class of 2028 came together to celebrate PA Day with good conversation, plenty of laughs, and—of course—pizza and donuts! 🍩 🍕🎉

It was a great opportunity for our cohorts to connect, build relationships, and celebrate the profession they’re working so hard to join. We love seeing our future PAs supporting one another and building a strong PA community here at South College Orlando!

PA Student Spotlight NO. 12: Bailee B. 🐬🩻
A Florida native and UCF Health Sciences graduate, Bailee gained valuable clinical experience working as a Medical Assistant in an orthopedic office before starting her PA journey. Driven by a passion to make a difference for patients during their most challenging moments, she is excited to be pursuing her dream career. When she isn't hitting the books with her headphones to block out noise, you can find her decompressing by visiting the beach or hunting down new ice cream spots around town. Her top advice for pre-PA students is to network, as you never know who might help you secure shadowing, PCE, or a future rotation site!

🦴 Starting PA School Hands-On! 🩺✨

It’s only week one for our newest cohort of South College Orlando Physician Assistant students, and they’re already diving into hands-on learning!

Our new PA students spent time exploring anatomy using bone models, giving them the opportunity to identify anatomical structures and landmarks while bringing concepts from the classroom to life.

From their very first week, we’re excited to see them building the knowledge and skills that will serve as the foundation for their journey toward becoming future PAs! 💪🩺

From providing essential healthcare services to families to sharing endless laughs and playtime with local kids, this trip was a powerful reminder of why we chose this path. So grateful for the chance to learn, serve, and grow together as future PAs. 🩺

Quarter 4 is officially in the books, and the cohort decided the only appropriate way to celebrate surviving Emergency Medicine was with the first annual South College PA Olympics! Things got competitive fast. Between figuring out if a name belonged to a Pokémon or a medication, identifying mystery items, and racing through song trivia, clinical reasoning was pushed to its absolute limits. Precision was tested at an all-time high during Pin the Band-Aid on Dr. Gerke’s Forehead Abscess, and the day wrapped up with a high-fashion runway strut showcasing peak OR scrub style. Huge shoutout to our faculty for fueling all the chaotic competition with Chipotle for lunch!

🩺 Hands-on learning in action!

Our South College Orlando PA students recently sharpened their clinical skills during a hands-on lab focused on upper extremity splinting and lumbar punctures. From proper immobilization techniques to practicing the steps of a lumbar puncture, students gained valuable experience designed to build confidence and prepare them for real-world patient care.

Another day of turning classroom knowledge into clinical skills! 💪🥼
