Quarter 4 is officially in the books, and the cohort decided the only appropriate way to celebrate surviving Emergency Medicine was with the first annual South College PA Olympics! Things got competitive fast. Between figuring out if a name belonged to a Pokémon or a medication, identifying mystery items, and racing through song trivia, clinical reasoning was pushed to its absolute limits. Precision was tested at an all-time high during Pin the Band-Aid on Dr. Gerke’s Forehead Abscess, and the day wrapped up with a high-fashion runway strut showcasing peak OR scrub style. Huge shoutout to our faculty for fueling all the chaotic competition with Chipotle for lunch!

🦴 Putting Orthopedic Skills into Practice! 💪

Our South College Orlando PA students recently took part in an Orthopedic Lab, practicing a variety of upper extremity special tests used to evaluate musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.

Through hands-on practice, students strengthened their physical exam skills, clinical reasoning, and confidence in assessing the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand—important skills for their future clinical rotations and careers as PAs.

Another great day of learning by doing! 🩺

Our students sharpened another essential set of clinical skills during this week’s hands-on procedures lab! 💉🩺

Students had the opportunity to refine a variety of essential clinical skills, including phlebotomy under the expert instruction of Professor Bernadette Ramos, BSHCA, CCMA, CPT, South College Orlando’s Medical Assisting Program Director, abscess incision and drainage (I&D), and medication administration via subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intradermal injections. Through hands-on practice and faculty mentorship, students strengthened their technical proficiency while building the confidence and clinical judgment needed to deliver exceptional patient care.
These hands-on experiences help prepare our future PAs to provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care from day one of clinical practice.

At South College Orlando’s PA Program, hands-on learning is at the heart of our curriculum!

This week, our PA students sharpened their orthopedic skills during a casting lab, learning how to properly apply and safely remove casts. Through hands-on practice, they gained valuable experience in immobilization techniques, patient care, and cast removal—essential skills they’ll carry into their future clinical rotations and practice.

Experiences like these help build the confidence and clinical competence our students need to provide exceptional patient care.

At South College Orlando’s PA Program, learning extends far beyond the classroom. ❤️

Throughout this quarter, our PA students have had the opportunity to serve the community by volunteering at Matthew’s Hope, providing compassionate care to individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability under the supervision of our faculty.

Students performed basic patient screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, while also conducting focused physical exams for patients with more complex healthcare needs. This hands-on experience allowed them to strengthen their clinical skills while making a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Service, compassion, and clinical excellence are at the heart of what it means to be a future Physician Assistant. We’re proud of our students for their commitment to caring for our community and grateful to Matthew’s Hope for partnering with us to provide this valuable learning experience.

💙 Learning through service. Caring through action.
