EmpowerMS is a statewide outreach and training project designed to expand access to nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships for Mississippi students. The initiative brings together three community colleges (Northwest Mississippi Community College, Hinds Community College, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College) and three four-year institutions (Tougaloo College, Jackson State University, and Alcorn State University) to strengthen advising networks, increase student engagement, and build institutional capacity.
The Program & Research Assistant will work closely with the Project Director to support statewide outreach, program development, assessment, and event planning. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in higher education, educational research, student success initiatives, fellowship advising, or public service.
This is a part-time hourly position (not a Graduate Assistantship) averaging up to 8 hours per week, with hours varying throughout the academic year based on project activities.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and facilitating student workshops and information sessions.
- Deliver engaging presentations to students, faculty, and staff at partner institutions.
- Develop advising resources and toolkits for community college and university partners.
- Design, administer, and analyze surveys using Qualtrics or similar platforms.
- Collect, organize, and interpret project assessment data.
- Assist with planning the inaugural Mississippi Fellowship Network (MFN) Summit.
- Support communication and coordination with institutional partners across Mississippi.
- Contribute to grant reports and other project-related activities.
Travel:
The position will involve occasional travel to partner institutions and project events across Mississippi. All approved travel expenses will be covered by ONSA.
Compensation:
This is a part-time hourly position averaging up to 8 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based on project needs.
