Recent repairs being made to a Moller “bar/membrane” chest where each note for each rank is on a removable box or “bar” with each note bladder being affected by high pressure on one side and chest pressure on the other. When the primary is exhausted on the high pressure side the low pressure bladder or pouch collapses allowing wind into the pipe. This style of chest was short-lived due to difficult maintenance considering that all of the pipes on the chest must be removed to access a single bar.

Much of May and June were spent removing organ components for restoration over the next few months. First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore, PA (M.P. Moller, Opus 1376) is having its pneumatic shade engine and Great pipework restored and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Glenside is having its instrument completely re-leathered, console rebuilt, and digital voices updated and expanded.

While it has been over a year since our last post, Kehoe & Company wishes you a Merry Christmas and is most thankful for your support and patronage whether you are a colleague, assistant, friend, or customer!

Amongst other service projects and tunings, our work at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Wyncote, Pa, progressed through 2024 and the organ is complete and playing! Some detail work in the new year will round out this project.

Stay tuned for more to come in 2025. We'll try to post more frequently too!

In this busy season preparing for Christmas, there is one organ that won't be getting tuned this year...

In the fall, Kehoe & Company was selected to restore the pipework, rewire, and completely rebuild the console of M.P. Moller Opus 7040 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Wyncote, PA. This organ was previously re-leathered and will be completely restored after this work is completed in 2024. While this is a small organ, some of its notable features are two Celestes that extend to CC, a Melodia with open pipes for notes 1-12, and machine screw inserts for all bottom boards with no blow strips. The console was also entirely electro-mechanical. It is believed that this organ was designed by Henry Baecker, a former curator of the Wanamaker Organ. We appreciate Calvary entrusting this instrument to our care. More to come next year!

Had the pleasure of tuning this fine little portativ organ for Princeton University yesterday built by Taylor & Boody. And what a fabulous space Richardson Auditorium is! Unfortunately, the organ facade is probably all that is left of whatever instrument this hall had many years ago.

Kehoe & Company would like to thank all of our clients and wish you a Happy New Year! Amongst other projects from last year, a highlight was the console rebuild for St. John the Evangelist in Pittston, PA. The Kilgen stopkey layout was returned and interior components were refinished, and restored. The room and organ are very impressive! Thanks to Greg Zelek for showing it off in a fabulous program too!

Previously spending a week tuning for churches in central Pennsylvania, I was reminded that I did not post any photos of the updates from our project at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville. The Swell division was thoroughly cleaned, swell engine and Rohrflute chest concussion bellow were re-leathered, the Trompette refurbished, and the chests cleaned. Thank you to Rich Spotts and Rob Sykora for assisting with this project, and thank you to Trinity Lutheran Church!
