As summer approaches, many families are beginning to plan college tours. Use these visits to explore various campus sizes and locations. Will I prefer a small, intimate campus or the sprawling campus of a large state flagship? Am I more comfortable in a bustling city, in a quiet college town or on a remote self-contained campus. What’s the climate like on these campuses? Both the weather and culture! Use these initial trips to narrow down the possibilities, rather than trying to pick which campus is the “one.” Once you get a feel for the type of campus that you like, you can use the virtual tours offered by each of the colleges on your potential list to explore their individual campuses. As acceptances are received, you can consider an in person visit to those schools on your short list to help you make the final decision.
Another tip is to speak to as many current students as you can on your campus visits. Most students love their schools and are more than happy to discuss their pros and cons.

May is a busy time for college bound, high school students.

Seniors’ May 1st decision day is followed by the excitement of signing up for housing and summer orientation, finding roommates and continuing to plan for fall enrollment.

Juniors (and some sophomores) are focused on ACT and SAT prep and finalizing their class schedules for next year. That’s where May’s monthly tip from COLLEGE FIT HELP comes in. When selecting core academic classes, consider stretching yourself and choosing classes of increased rigor (honors or AP). Use electives to explore areas of interest that might turn into a major one day.

If you would like someone to help you take control of the college application process and to help you find your best COLLEGE FIT, please contact me. After a free initial consultation, you can create a personalized package of services to fit your individual needs.
