New Jersey Residents, get ready for online sales tax. NJ has lured Amazon.com to set up warehouses in the state via tax incentives. In return, NJ will be able to collect sales tax on Amazon.com purchases from NJ locals starting July 2013. Obviously, this will affect existing NJ businesses and consumers.

Here is some more guidance on the new payroll tax law. Corrections for over payments are required to be made before March 31. Also, there is a "recapture" provision which is an additional tax for any employee making more than $18,350 between January 1 and February 29. Consult with your tax professional to discuss your specific situation and how this might impact you.

Pay close attention to the recapture provision, which imposes an additional income tax on some employees.

In case you missed it, Congress reached a stop gap agreement on keeping payroll taxes at their current level. This will impact every employee in America. Unfortunately, this measure will expire in two months. So it remains to be seen what your payroll taxes will be for the balance for 2012. Here is the story.

It appears the payroll tax cuts are likely to be extended for 2011. As you probably are aware, there is a temporary 2% cut on social security taxes for 2010. There is still posturing on the issue, but it appears there is enough political will for this to be extended. Stay tuned.

Boehner said that he hoped House Republicans would support an extension of a payroll-tax holiday, but offered no resounding assurances one day after the Senate voted down two partisan proposals.
