AdEL was founded in the fall of 1994 by a group of sophomores looking to enhance awareness of the Latino presence on Temple’s campus. The group spearheaded the project by making connections with students and faculty who were interested and supportive of the cause. While the organization started off small (5-7 members), it grew to over 40 members in a matter of one academic school year. AdEL was ab
le to further back its credibility, as well as increase its member pool, by reaching out and involving itself in the Philadelphia Latino community. It did so by organizing community service events and holding on campus sessions that were open to the public. Seeing the ever increasing popularity of AdEL, many other student entities including fraternities, sororities, political groups, and dance organizations were able to branch out under our strong influence. AdEL still remains as the umbrella organization for all Latino groups on Temple’s campus today. AdEL has been recognized as an asset to both the Temple Latino community and the Philadelphia Latino community. AdEL has been successful at planning, organizing, and executing many sensational events on and off campus. Events such as Free Food and Fun Friday, galas, diversity events, collaborations with other organizations, and charity fundraisers have made powerful impressions on the communities we cater to. Members also enjoy our weekly meetings which have been put into place to maintain a solid following and to address current events and issues within the Latino community.
