🦉 “I don’t know if I’ll end up exactly where I plan to be, but I’m always excited to see where life takes me.”

For National Transfer Student Week, meet CEHD student Jess Incollingo, who transferred to Temple from Delaware County Community College to pursue her passion for teaching.

As a secondary English education major, Incollingo is preparing to become a high school English teacher while staying open to the possibilities ahead. She chose Temple for its urban environment and the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds.

Her advice to fellow transfer students? Get to know your professors, stop by office hours and don’t be afraid to ask questions. “Simply showing up and demonstrating that you care can do wonders for your academic career.”

What does your path to college look like when it doesn’t follow the traditional route?

For National Transfer Student Week, Oct. 19–23, we’re highlighting CEHD student Willa Flickinger, who transferred to Temple from Bucks County Community College with a passion for education and creating meaningful learning experiences for children.

Flickinger went straight into the workforce after high school, gaining real-world experience that she now brings with her to the classroom.

At Temple, she’s studying human development and community engagement and pursuing a certificate in children’s media. Her dream job? Becoming a children’s librarian. 📖

Her advice to fellow transfer students: “Never be afraid to ask for help.”

Congratulations, Jamie Ray-Leonetti!

We are excited to announce that Jamie Ray-Leonetti will be the new executive director of the Institute on Disabilities in the College of Education and Human Development at Temple University!

Ray-Leonetti, who has served as associate director of policy for the IOD since 2018, will step into her new role on Nov. 2. Before joining the IOD, she worked at the Pennsylvania Client Assistance Program and Disability Rights Pennsylvania, as well as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“Jamie has been a tireless champion for people with disabilities, and her policy leadership has shaped the IOD’s impact across the Commonwealth,” said Dean Monika Williams Shealey.

Ray-Leonetti is excited to continue and expand the work of the IOD.

“I am excited to listen and lead with purpose as we train the next generation of diverse leaders,” Ray-Leonetti said. “I look forward to hearing from individuals with disabilities and families across the Commonwealth; collaborating with community partners; engaging with faculty, students and staff in CEHD and the larger Temple community; and supporting IOD staff to ensure that disability is recognized as part of our natural human experience.”

🦉 “Don’t think of yourself as starting behind.”

That’s the advice Nathan “Nate” Gibson, a CEHD transfer student, has for fellow transfer students.

Gibson came to Temple after more than eight years of U.S. Army service, including time as an instructor. As a nontraditional student, he knew he had plenty of experience to bring with him, from leadership and teamwork to teaching and working with people.

Now, he’s pursuing a bachelor of art in adult learning, training and organizational development and a master of education in training and organizational development through Temple’s +1 accelerated program.

For Gibson, transferring wasn’t about starting over. It was about building on everything that came before.
