Dr. Cosby is the first HBCU president to shout out The HBCU Encyclopedia and we’re honored to have Simmons lead the way.

Located in Louisville, Kentucky and founded in 1879, Simmons College is a private Christian liberal arts HBCU with a historic mission of educating and uplifting Black scholars and leaders and currently focuses on academic accessibility through an open enrollment process.

Did you know Cheyney University was the first HBCU ever founded? 🎓

Originally established as the African Institute on February 25, 1837, this ceremony honored 189 years of history.

It was a beautiful event, and there’s so much more coming from HBCU Bound as we keep touring these amazing schools and documenting the culture! 📸
