Today, we recognize Women's Equality Day and the adoption of the 19th Amendment on this day in 1920, a major step forward in securing women's right to vote. While the amendment expanded access to the ballot for many women, Black women continued to face barriers to voting.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 helped break down many of those barriers and moved our nation closer to equal access and participation for all.

As members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, we honor the women who refused to be left out of the story and whose voices helped shape the democracy we know today.

The right to vote was hard fought and hard won. Let's honor that legacy by showing up, speaking up, and staying engaged.

Please take a few minutes to:
• Verify your voter registration
• Learn about the issues impacting your community
• Make a plan to vote in upcoming elections
• Encourage someone else to do the same

Our 2026 Sisterly Retreat was filled with fellowship, laughter, reflection, and well-deserved recognition!

One of the highlights of the retreat was presenting Sister Superlatives to celebrate the unique gifts, dedication, and impact of our members. Sisters received a certificate as a token of appreciation for the countless ways she contributes to our chapter and the South Charlotte community.

It was a meaningful opportunity to recognize those who work tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front lines, embodying our commitment to service and sisterhood.

Congratulations to all of our amazing Sisters. You are seen, valued, and appreciated!

Our First Sisterly Retreat as a Chartered Chapter!

What an unforgettable weekend! Our very first Sisterly Retreat as a newly chartered chapter was everything we envisioned and so much more.

Over two incredible days, we strengthened our bonds through engaging workshops, meaningful conversations, shared laughter, delicious food, and a little sisterly competition. We celebrated the unique spirit of our sisters with our Sister Superlatives, learned together, grew together, and were reminded that the heart of our sisterhood is found in the connections we build and the support we freely give one another.

Moments like these serve as a beautiful reminder that sisterhood extends beyond meetings and service. It is about encouraging one another, creating lasting memories, and embracing every step of this journey together.

We leave this retreat refreshed, inspired, and energized for the work ahead. The future is bright, and we're excited to continue growing, serving, and making an impact together!
